Growth habit may reach 15 m, but often shrubby;
Leaves 3.5-5.5 x 2-3 cm; evergreen; stiff, leathery; elliptic to oblong, sometimes slightly obovate; base round; apex rounded, sometimes with a blunt mucro; margin entire or with spiny teeth, less revolute than in Q. semecarpifolia; adaxially glabrescent; abaxially with golden-yellow trichomes covering densely the lateral veins; 6-9 pairs of secondary veins impressed above; petiole 5-8 mm long, hairless.
Flowers
Fruits acorn ovoid 1.5 cm long, singly or paired on a 4-5 cm long peduncle, shorter than in Q. semecarpifolia; cupule halfround with appressed scales, adhering totally to the acorn which is half enclosed by cup; maturation in 2 years/
