Leaves 5-8 x 2.5-3 cm; evergreen; leathery; narrowly oboval, or elliptic, or elliptic-lanceolate; apex pointed or round; base cuneate; margin dentate (5-10 pairs of short teeth, setaceous at the end) except at basal half; 7-8 veins pairs, slightly impressed above, prominent beneath; glabrous, smooth and shiny above; densely yellowish-grey tomentose beneath with solitary and fasciculate hairs; petiole 1-1.4 cm long, yellowish grey tomentose;
Flowers February-March; male catkin tomentose, 2.5-3.5 cm long; female inflorescences 0.5-1 cm, with 2-3 cups;
Fruits acorn 0.9-1.1 cm long, 0.9 cm in diameter; subglobose, apex slightly concave, or flat or rounded, mucronate; silky; short peduncle (1.5-3 cm); enclosed 2/3 by cup; cup 0.8-1.1 cm in diameter; scales convex, pubescent, triangular; maturing in 1 year;
