Flowers female inflorescence 3-6 cm, bearing usually only one fruit when mature;
Fruits acorn elliptic 1 cm long; glabrous, solitary; enclosed 1/3 or 1/4 by the cup; cup to 6 mm, with appressed, grey tomentose scales;

Q.phillyreoides but uncertain status (The Plant List 2013); however, the works of J. Liu 2019 (Complete Chloroplast Genome Sequence and Phylogenetic analysis of Q. bawanglingensis) show a strong relationship with Q. tarokoensis.
