-- This taxon was considered as a synonym of Q. crispifolia, but the latter differs in the narrowly elliptic leaves, the veins raised adaxially, the base acute or cuneate, the apex long acuminate, the acorn to more than 3 cm long.
-- The specific name honors Silvia Salas, a biologist who collected intensively in the state of Oaxaca, particularly this new species.
