Leaves 8-20 cm long, 2-6 wide; evergreen or tardily deciduous; narrowly elliptic-oblong, to lanceolate or oblanceolate, often assymetrical or curved on one side; base cuneate or attenuate; apex acuminate, sometimes bristle-tipped; margin entire, slightly wavy; dark green, hairles, shiny above; sometimes some stellate hairs at base and along midrib beneath; 15-20 vein pairs impressed above, prominent beneath; petiole 3 mm long, stellate pubescent;
Flowers
Fruits acorn subglobose, 1.2 cm in diameter; apex flattened; singly or paired on a 2-4 cm long peduncle; enclosed 1/3 or less in cup; cup more or less deep, with pubescent scales; basal scar 7-9 mm long; maturing in 1 year;

bark greyish black or dark brown; twigs 1.5-4 mm thick, soon glabrous, with conspicuous lenticels; bud 3-4 mm long, ovoid, with slightly pubescent and lustrous scales; stipules soon deciduous;
