Leaves 8-10 x 3-4.5 cm; oblong to oval-elliptic; shortly acuminate at apex; base cuneate or almost rounded; leathery, thick; margin rarely sinuate, dentate on apical 1/2; glabrous above, densely whitish tomentose beneath with stellate hairs; midrib impressed above, prominent below; 10-14 vein pairs raised beneath; petiole 1-2.5 cm, densely tomentose;
Flowers April to May; female inflorescences axillary, singly, densely tomentose, 4 cm long, with 2-3 fruits; styles connate only at their base;
Fruits acorn globose to ovoid, 1.4 cm in diameter; pointed; glabrescent; enclosed 1/2 by cup; cup rather thin, 1.6 cm in diameter, scales in 6-7 concentric rings with margin denticulate; maturing in 2 years;
