Growth habit small tree; reaches 12 m tall, with trunk to 0.4 m in diametre.
Leaves 10-17 x 4.5-10 cm; oval, oboval or elliptic; weakly pointed, hard, stiff, pale green and glabrous above, paler and greyish beneath; margins wavy or coarsely sinuate, apically 1/2 toothed; base cuneate; 10-14 pairs of straight lateral veins, adaxially impressed and abaxially raised, at an angle of 48-50° with midrib; petiole 1.2-1.9 cm long, more or less tomentose;
Flowers female flowers at the base of leaves petioles, on spikes 3-3.5 cm long, with 8-10 flowers ;
Fruits acorn 0.8-1.4 cm in diameter, 0.7-1 cm long; mucronate; cup sessile, 0.8-1.5 cm in diameter, with 5-7 minutely tomentose,concentric rings, covering 2/3 of the nut; early fruiting; ripe in 2 years;
