Leaves 3-15 cm long, 2-7 cm wide; evergreen; leathery, stiff; elliptic-oblong; apex obtuse with short bristle-tipped tooth; base cuneate or rounded; margin entire, thick, slightly revolute, not lobed nor toothed, with bristles at the end of some secondary veins; yellowish, dark green, somewhat hairless above; paler beneath with some axil tufts of short, straight; stellate 6-12-rayed hairs, also present along midrib; 5-10 vein pairs; glabrescent petiole 0,5-1 cm long;
Flowers male catkins 5-10 cm long; 1-6 female flowers, on a 2-3 cm long peduncle;
Fruits acorn 1-1.5 cm long, ovoid, pubescent, 1-2 together; nearly stalkless cup enclosing 1/3 to 1/2 of nut, with velutinous, appressed scales; maturing in 1 year;
