3.5-10 cm X 1.5-6 cm; leathery; varying in shape, from elliptical, ovate, obovate, oblanceolate to lanceolate; apex obtuse to acute; base broadly cuneate, or rounded, slightly cordate to auriculate; margin distinctly revolute, with 4-6 pairs of small blunt teeth on 1/2 to 2/3 of the blade; adaxially dark green, glabrous; abaxially covered by dense stipitate fasciculate and scattered uniseriate trichomes; veins prominently concave above, prominently convex underneath; 6-11 lateral veins pairs; short petiole 2-5 mm long, hairy;

in March; male flowers solitary on catkins; female inflorescence at leaf axil of current year's twig; pistilate flower solitary or paired; 3-5 styles;

Fruits

1.6-2 cm, ovoid to elliptic, glabrous; cup 11-15 mm in diameter, covering ca 1/3-1/2 of nut; scales flat, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate; seed scar flat or slightly convex; maturation biennal in October-November;
